Ask any child what he/she wants to be when they grow up, there is a ninety percent chance that the answer will be either a sportsperson or an actor. Nearly one fourth of our daily life is nowadays spent watching T.V. Most weekends, families visit multiplexes to enjoy a film followed by dinner.

Artists performing in theatres and circuses are also entertainers and performers, but they are neither as famous nor as prosperous as the actors working in a commercial film. The influence of film stars on the general population is immense and nearly every teenager has a crush on an actor during their teens. Thousands come into the film industry hoping to strike it big. But few do and many ruin their lives trying to achieve their dream.

Actors are very sensitive and sometimes prone to vanity. They go out of their way to create a good image of themselves and so the public mostly believes in the image projected. Hence for them their heroes can do no wrong. In south India, temples are dedicated to superstars.

We all know the furore and adulation that greets music bands all over the world. Elvis Presley and Michael Jackson have become legends, the Beatles are still held in high esteem.

The Arts and Entertainment industry provides livelihood to millions around the world. The cast, the spot boys, the choreographers, the stylists, the technicians are few of the many who depend on this industry for their daily bread and butter. The world has advanced in technology and this has been best portrayed in the progress of film making over the years. Glamour is a part and parcel of the arts and entertainment field. But one must not judge from the outer show. Performing in theatres, films or circuses involves tremendous hard work and patience. It is not all about donning make-up and looking good. Erratic working hours, irregular meal times, hazardous working conditions are some of the many negative points of working in the arts and entertainment industry. But for the artists and performers everything is worth it when they give the perfect shot or play their role to perfection.

The internet and Satellite Television have overexposed our heroes. They are continuously present in our living room and interaction of today’s youngsters with them is even more than it was a decade back. Cricket and football fever grips every nation. Now that cricket is being played in so many formats, youngsters vying to be cricketers feel that they have more chance in the field. Fame and money lures many into the field of sports, arts and entertainment. Talent takes a backseat at times and backdoor entries are prevalent and influence and money power sometimes results in mediocre actors and sportspersons being selected. But in the end it is pure talent and hard work that wins. Luck of course plays a major role in this industry. Meeting the right people at the right time gives on a much needed break and then to maintain and retain the success is not easy.

An entertainer and performer have to continuously evolve and keep abreast with changing times and conditions. Laxity costs them their career. Singers, actors and sportspersons do not have stability in their field and very few enjoy a long span of adulation and hero-worship in their career.

Human being is a social animal by nature. Social requirements will be met by meeting each other, be it formally or informally. It is perceived that for a person’s growth one feels that formal approach is most important. But the fact of life is that the informal meetings play a very important part in the personal growth of a person, which will affect his professional growth also. There are various forms of entertainment, some enjoy drama, some watching TV, some reading books etc. people can form different groups depending on the common likings and hobbies.

Why do we need entertainment?

In this modern age of extreme pressures where everyone is expected to deliver results way beyond their capabilities, one has to have a way of defusing the pressure. This can be in terms of hobbies, various forms of art or entertainment. There are different reasons for art and entertainment, one of the basic reasons is to relax. This relaxation will give the brain energy to perform better and more efficiently. The other reason is, to feel happy, this may be through watching a cinema, a favorite TV serial, eat at a favorite restaurant or celebrate. The third reason for art and entertainment is to get rid of loneliness. This is one major fact for depression in modern world where people don’t have friends to vent out their feelings and sorrow as everyone is running behind schedule or behind something.

This pressure is not restricted only to the grownups even children are equally exposed to these kinds of pressures. The schools have a very tough and vast syllabus forcing the children to go beyond their expectations. Moreover, the peer pressure they face daily takes a toll on them to perform better. To top it all, the parents expect their children to be super heroes and subject them to various forms of extra activities. To make a child relax, it is very important for him or her to do something which they enjoy, be it in terms of art or entertainment. Also, this art will improve Child’s creativity and make him sharper. This kind of entertainment will make the child more alert in the classroom and will make him perform better in all walks of life and also will increase his psycho motor skills which is very essential for every child. For some entertainment is lively hood, they may not be comfortable without TV, stage shows, cinema etc, but the main problem such people face is time. For such people these entertainers make short and refreshing acts which will de-stress them.

Conclusion:

In short everyone needs art and entertainment may be to de-stress them or for any reason. This kind of entertainment was not felt or available in earlier days for various reasons. Also the kind of work pressure one under goes now-a-days was not present in earlier days. More over the entertainment avenues are very limited, with the growth of technology; a lot of modes of entertainment are available.

Arts, is a vast field that includes a career in Graphic Design to Visual Arts,
from Broadcasting to Film and Video, from Education to Multiple fields, from
Fashion to Textile Art etc. When you are at the threshold of your career, you
may be confused to select your choice of field as there are plenty of avenues
open. It all depends on what are your likes and which subject you get interested
in. If you are still confused, it is better to join a professional or a students’
organization that will give you career guidance.

If you are interested in the Media, you can join an Entertainment channel and
thereby participate being either before the camera or behind it. Each field has
its own technicalities that you need to specialize in. Hence you must choose your
career wisely so that it gets enhanced into a bright future.

A career in arts and entertainment is sought after by most of the youth because of
the popularity it involves. In spite of its popularity, this industry is smaller
compared to the service and manufacturing sector. There are millions of people in
the same field, hence it is very competitive and you need to be steadfast in your
approach to work related in this field.

The best way to get into this industry is by networking. You can also take the
guidance of a public relations officer to get you through the formal introductions
to get you the right exposure in this field. Most of the time a job in this industry
would be part time when compared to the other industries. Hence you need to have an
alternative job to fall back on. For example a career in acting may not be necessarily
a daily work routine. It could be few hours on a weekly basis.

Earnings are much low in the entertainment industry and it is an industry wherein
survival of the fittest matters the most. You need to be seen by the prominent people
who can make your career; hence you need to market yourself as the right choice to be
in theatre etc. These fields can be as leisure time activities wherein you spend some
time and get some extra income from this field.

You may have to struggle to get yourself a competitive role in a theatrical play or
a film. You must be mentally prepared for this and simultaneously have an alternate
plan in life. If you choose to become a fashion designer, you need to show your
talent to the people around so that they believe in your work. This can be a full
time job in hand. You need to keep coming out with new creations to keep abreast
with the changing trends. This is a very fast paced industry where change is mandatory.

If you are gifted with a sweet voice, you can become a radio jockey but this again is
only a part time job. You need to be aware of your own qualities to fit into different
categories of arts and entertainment.

It is usual human nature to admire beauty around us, such as we are often awe-struck when we see a painting, or read a beautiful poem, or listen to soothing music! We commonly associate art in terms of a painting or a sculpture we see in a museum or an art gallery, nonetheless, art is everywhere around us in many forms and holds a significant value in our lives. This article would talk about Art and its importance in our lives.

It is difficult to describe “Art” in literal terms, but broadly it is understood to be a form to express one’s feelings through any object or medium like paper, music, colours, technology, magic, photography etc. It could be abstract, realistic, naturalistic, conceptual, and inspirational. It is agreeable that we are surrounded by Art and also rely on it in our daily routine. When we enter someone’s home, it is difficult to stop ourselves to appreciate the way the living room is decorated. You would find rhythm and harmony in the way furniture are placed; photographs adorn a wall, paintings hung above the sofa or any particular artefact placed in a corner or centre piece on a coffee table etc. This is also art, one doesn’t have to be a painter to be an artist, how an individual expresses him/herself, uses imagination and creative energy to embellish and decorate the surrounding. Arts have many forms like visual and performing arts are the ones that could be related easily.

Visual arts broadly comprise of paintings, drawing, clay modelling, architecture, photography etc. and performing arts include dance, music, opera, theatre, magic, spoken words, circus art and musical theatre. It is inter-related with Entertainment. When you make people enjoy, laugh, cry, and angry by your performance, that is the art of entertaining. There is a big world of Entertainment and almost all of us find solace watching their work. There are a lot of people who work or study or exercise with music on or the television on. Music has a great impact on our mood; it makes us joyful and relaxes us and keeps the energy on. Not only music, but also movies, plays and theatre also imp active. This reveals how much we are hemmed in by Arts and Entertainment.

It could be concluded that importance of Arts in our lives is very similar to entertainment. Now-a-days Art and Craft Education are encouraged at schools for children as it provides a platform for the young ones to express and explore their imagination. Research and Statistics confirm that this education helps resolve a lot of problems and enhances critical thinking skills. Not all children are academically good, hence encouraging them to discover the artist in themselves might help them grow in life and excel in many other fields. It could be very inspirational as well; there are a lot of people who put up positive posters at work and home to bring the best out of them. Even if it is agreed that artist are born with such instincts but it is never too late to explore a hidden talent within you!
